The U.N. says it has fired nine staff members from its agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, after an internal investigation found they may have been involved in the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack against Israel.

The U.N, secretary-general’s office announced the move in a brief statement to journalists Monday. It did not elaborate on the UNRWA staffers’ likely role in the attack. It said the nine included seven staffers who were fired previously over the claims.

      Israel has also demonstrated at this point that this isn’t about Oct 7. This is about the complete annihilation of the Palestinian people. And to an extent they’re demonstrating why people may turn to Hamas in desperation

        Israel could level all of Gaza and West bank if they wanted to like in less than a day. 40k(maybe more than half terrorist Hamas) dead in a year is such an annihilation. Damn they really made a dent in that 5.5million.

        The people already support Hamas before any of this. That’s why Hamas governs them, they got the majority vote in their election. Make it up as you go why they “may turn to Hamas in desperation” they turned to Hamas before there was ever a war.

          The UN Convention definition of genocide is clear on the topic:

          https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/genocide

          "any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

          a) killing members of the group;

          b) causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

          c) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

          d) imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

          e) forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

          Israel is now 5/5. They only had to do 1 for it to be considered a genocide.

            There is no intent to destroy even in part the Palestine people.

            If there was this would be a whole lot more than 40 thousand deaths in nearly a year of fighting. And don’t forget of those deaths how many are terrorists they are fighting?

            They only had to do 1 for it to be considered a genocide.

            They have to do it while having that intent. It’s clear imo it’s not their intent. Their intent is to destroy the Hamas terror organization.

              “There is no intent to destroy even in part the Palestine people.”

              Not according to multiple Israeli officials, including Netanyahu.

              https://www.newarab.com/analysis/erase-gaza-how-genocidal-rhetoric-normalised-israel

              “We are fighting human animals, and we are acting accordingly,” Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, said, describing the Israeli military’s response just days after Hamas’ attack. “We will eliminate everything - they will regret it,” Gallant added.

              “There is one and only (one) solution, which is to completely destroy Gaza before invading it. I mean destruction like what happened in Dresden and Hiroshima, without nuclear weapons,” he said.

              “There should be two goals for this victory: One, there is no more Muslim land in the land of Israel … After we make it the land of Israel, Gaza should be left as a monument, like Sodom”.

                Yeah, Hamas are human savages for what they did, no? They will eliminate all of Hamas and make Hamas regret it? I don’t think they talk about the Palestine people just hamas.

                “There is one and only (one) solution, which is to completely destroy Gaza before invading it. I mean destruction like what happened in Dresden and Hiroshima, without nuclear weapons,” he said.

                It’s not quite what has happened though from what I see. Numbers I see are 55% of the buildings damaged or destroyed. As well as the death did not compare to Hiroshima. They gave them the chance to evacuate.

                “There should be two goals for this victory: One, there is no more Muslim land in the land of Israel … After we make it the land of Israel, Gaza should be left as a monument, like Sodom”.

                Right, one Israeli politician may have said that. Is that what’s going to happen? Netanyahu has shown willingness for a two state solution. People may not be 100% happy with his vision of it but he does have one.

      Both can be bad. No amount of violence on the part of Israel will absolve Hamas of theirs.

        Let’s ignore this war started in 1948 and Hamas was founded in 1987, I guess. So we’re clear, this isn’t an endorsement of Hamas, but I’m just saying… There’s 40 years of context that precedes the existence of Hamas, and maybe in those 40 years Palestinian became less and less faithful that anyone could help them but the violent weirdos. If you want to deescalate tensions in the middle east, ceasing genocide is a good first step

          100%. Not suggesting anything be ignored, just that Hamas should be held accountable for their actions just as Israel should. The level of those actions may not be equal, but they also don’t cancel each other out.

          Saying that things started in 1948 isn’t even the full proper context. Zionists had been settling in the region for decades prior, after all, for the explicit purpose of creating a Jewish ethnostate in the Levant, and you simply can’t do that without kicking out or subjugating all the people already living there.

          What in the fuck are you talking about lmfao. Palestine-Arabs launched that war in 1948. They launched a brutal attack involving 8 of their Arab countries because they did not want a two state solution.

          So you know what. There is also 40 years(75years) of context that Israel became less and less faithful in a peaceful solution.

      Even that attack was just a continuation of a bloodfeud spanning thousands and thousands of years.

        We have an exact date for when this started, May 14, 1948.
