Have you read the books? If you haven’t read them then the show is good.
If you’ve read the books think of it as a new turning of the wheel. The stories are similar but there are differences and those difference did piss off a few readers who watched the show.
I read the books and I liked it. But it’s definitely a different story.
As someone who has read the books extensively, I found the first watch kind of hard - certain changes from the books were really jarring and took me out of the story. I’ve found that on second and subsequent views, they are much more enjoyable. The actors are great, and the writing isn’t bad - some cringe moments here and there - but not bad for a first season.
No. Not if you’re a fan of the books. I never want to tell someone not to try something, but if you like the books and were hoping for a faithful LotR-esque retelling you will be disappointed.
I couldn’t get through 4 episodes before I turned it off in disgust at the crap we got.
And it’s not just the lack of faithful adaptation. The production value just isn’t there for such a world. Everything felt small and cramped.
Yeah this is a really big part of it, covid unfortunately really hit production hard, and they had one of the major characters leave for unknown personal reasons. I have no doubt s2 is going to be so much better than s1 in terms of production value.
Piggybacking off your comment. And everything you said is 100% true. BUT, if you haven’t read the books, the show is an amazing introduction to the WoT universe.
In my opinion, yes. I am a long-time fan of the book series and have enjoyed the first season of the show. There are differences, as there always are with adaptations and especially an adaptation of this scope. Just as with all adaptations with existing fandoms, some fans are bitter about it.
Is that show good?

I like this. This is going to be the cannon in my head.
The cannon in my head goes boom. I think you mean canon.
Right on, good catch
@teft
I basically agree with this.

That was a byproduct of the pandemic I think. They started filming at the end of 2019 and had to take a break during the pandemic.

as someone who hasn’t read the books, no. it was the worst fantasy show I’ve watched in years. it looked like a 2010 scifi channel original.
