Ok so let’s go over one of many possible examples.
say celebrity A has some dirt turn up and start making the rounds on social media. They usually retain a media management service which employ content farms staffed with media spin people with the express intent of mitigating the reputation harm this dirt is bringing to their client.
The celebrity doesn’t know them, the agent doesn’t know them, they are employed usually by contract with the social media management company. Both Depp and Heard had armies working for them during the trial and they both were terrible and obvious. If you want real examples go back to old reddit threads on around that time and you can clearly see which are the worst forum sliding offenders and then just start looking for those kinds of posts elsewhere.
There is an old playbook available from any number of places called ‘The Gentleperson’s Guide To Forum Spies’, and they begin to employ the techniques listed there usually to great effect because humans are gullible and self-focused. Modern techniques have expanded upon the techniques listed there to include platform denial, positioning forum actors as mods (reddit has suffered a fucktonne of this since 2015) and even SWATting.
A forum slider’s job is to bury the comments that expose the client and amplify the comments that idolize the client, while subtly shifting the conversation through intellectual dishonesty usually framed as ‘just asking questions’, or concern trolling.
It’s not simple to give you a comprehensive understanding because not all forum sliders are paid agents, some are just bored or anarchy driven people that thrive on chaos. But the most visible and effective are paid state actors and social media spin doctors.

I apologise. I was overly suspicious due to the widely reported russian bot and troll farms influencing the 2016 election, [1] [2] many of whom promoted Jill Stein. [3] This was exacerbated by U.S. intelligence officials already warning of Russian intent to influence this election as well. [4] I don’t have any evidence of you personally being part of a troll farm and shouldn’t have implied it.
I understand the need for concrete evidence. That’s why I have never definitively claimed Jill Stein to be an outright russian asset, for example, unlike claims in collections such as by Thirdway.org [5] These are anecdotes and not evidence - though I can’t say that collection would make me want to vote for Jill Stein.
I guess she was right about Biden’s age though, I’ll give her that. But then again even Trump was.

Thank you. It’s strange to me to see some of the attitudes in this community and this thread. I legit just finished my first day as a Special Education Paraeducator/Teacher’s Aide. I some on, log in and there were 27 messages calling me a liar, or a bot, or say that I was voting for Trump, or that I’m an idiot, etc.
All because I posed a POLTICAL news article about a POLTICAL happening to this community called POLITICS.
Just because I am voting for how I belive in, and it’s different than most people in this community does not mean I am a Russion Trumper Maga-loving Media Manipulator who wants trans people to die and people deported. All of which has been said to me in the last 24 hours.
My point being, that I just got back from being in a classroom of 2nd grader, and they treat people with more respect than many in this sub. And that is not an exaggeration! lol
Now to your point, I have no problem with you being suspicious or having problems against Jill Stein. Vote with the person you trust and who you want to vote for. That’s your right and I respect that. But I would expect the same respect given to me as well.
I don’t have any issues with Jill Stein, and she’s getting my vote. And for the record even tho I am Green Party, I would have 100 percent voted for Bernie back in 2006. And wish we had more like him running, regardless of party.
Also, I think Harris will probably win by a huge gap anyway, so not sure why so many people are upset about my vote. But for the record, even it was close, I’d still vote Green this year.
I’m not doing any of that tho. I am posting what I believe in. And I’m voting for a party you don’t like. That doesn’t make me a forum slider. lol
