Aaron Wan-Bissaka has left Manchester United to join West Ham United on a permanent transfer.
The right-back signed from Crystal Palace in June 2019 and went on to play 190 games for the Reds.
Wan-Bissaka, who became known for his tenacity in the tackle and impressive one-on-one defending, made his United debut in August 2019, helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to an impressive 4-0 victory over Chelsea.
He was a key member of Solskjaer’s squad which finished third and qualified for the Champions League later that season, and also played 54 times in all competitions the following term, as we came second in the top-flight and reached the Europa League final, losing to Villarreal on penalties.
Aaron scored two goals during his United career, against Newcastle United and Southampton, with both strikes coming in that 2020/21 season.
Injuries and competition with Diogo Dalot for the right-back slot reduced Wan-Bissaka’s appearances in the following campaigns, although he produced an impressive showing as a substitute against Newcastle in the 2023 Carabao Cup final, keeping the Magpies at bay en route to his first piece of silverware with the club.
He started the FA Cup final later that year, as United were beaten by Manchester City at Wembley, but the repeat derby 12 months on was a much happier occasion.
Wan-Bissaka was one of the Reds’ best performers on the day, largely reducing the influence of Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku to help ensure we lifted the famous old trophy for the 13th time.
That was Aaron’s final competitive appearance for United, as he now moves on to pastures new in London, joining the Hammers in their first campaign under recently appointed head coach Julen Lopetegui.
Everyone at United would like to thank Aaron for his contributions to the club and we wish him all the best for the future.
