I would’ve thought muted mics would be better for Harris. I don’t know why this isn’t a standard at every debate.

I think it depends on your definition of “better”.

From a decorum standpoint, muting the mic is probably better for all concerned.

But I think what Harris is counting on is Trump flying off the handle and looking unhinged. When it was Biden v. Trump, it was more like an old dude who looks meh vs an old dude that looks less meh, both looking confused.

But now it’s Trump v. Harris, the latter being much younger and has the backbone to clapback. Trump is likely going to look like your racist uncle on Thanksgiving who’s had a couple of wine coolers and is starting to sunset.

The funny thing is that the rules were agreed to a while ago. But Harris’ team knew Trump proper wanted open mics whereas his campaign team did not. So she’s chastising him publicly saying that she wants open mics, forcing his team to try to calm Trump down and convince him to not take the bait.

The amount of turmoil It’s probably causing…

      It’s brilliant.

"During that debate, microphones for the candidates were muted when they weren’t speaking, a term encouraged by the Biden team.

That was ultimately seen by Mr. Trump’s advisers as beneficial to him, because it prevented the former president from the type of frequent and self-harming eruptions he is prone to. "

Trumps team knows he’s gonna shoot himself in the foot.
