Without question. I think CPS should apprehend every unvaccinated (outside of medical reasons) child and make it a condition of returning them. I know that won’t happen but surely that’s a sign of shit parenting and child abuse.

Bodily autonomy doesn’t apply when the choices made can affect many more people than yourself. I also don’t think the isolation excuse works, as diseases can have carriers giving them a route to those pockets that aren’t protected. Pretty sure we’ve seen that kind of flareup before, with the antivac crowds confused as to what happened.

Kids with medical reasons why they can’t get a vaccine aren’t a risk to the vaccinated group, they are AT risk, but they are much more protected within that group than with a bunch of unvaccinated ones.

There’s a strong case to be made that for any society, the citizen’s rights to bodily autonomy should be secondary to the health of that society, especially when the procedure in question is so trivially easy to get and overwhelmingly safe to do so and (it should go without saying) when all objections to said procedure are based solely on political ideology.

The flip side of the rights granted to citizens from a society is a responsibility to that society, which is where the selfishness of conservative ideology is exposed.

Most issues are black and white with zero nuance, and anyone who acknowledges that must be a sealion. No exceptions!

A person who was seriously asking questions in good faith wouldn’t have posted this response.

Nobody who is posting in good faith can get frustrated when accused of not posting in good faith. Got it.

If you try to spread antivax disinformation in this community you will be banned. Your only warning.

I figured that my post including this was clear enough that I’m in favor of vaccines, but I guess anything short of 100% support for something is too close to malicious actors to have any kind of nuanced discussion.

I am completely in favor of vaccine requirements for attending public schools, with only medical exemptions to not be vaccinated. No religious exemptions.

I actually think most jobs should have vaccine requirements too.

I am 100% in favor of vaccines. They are safe for the vast majority of people and the best medical breakthrough in human history.

The only thing I am not 100% in favor of is treating a a lack of vaccines as child abuse because that approach means that the poor with reduced access would be disproportionately punished. Or minorities who know that the government has used medical practices to experiment on people like them.

A black family who is hesitent because of the Tuskegee experiments should not be treated as abusive for not trusting the US health care system. They have a valid reason to be suspicious. White Karen in the suburbs does not.

Then we get into which ones are necessary and which ones are not. MMR would probably fall under necessary, but what about flu shots? Flu regularly kills over 10k people each year, should that be required for all kids to not be abuse? Should all adults who don’t get the flu shot be considered as horrible people?

Someone can be 100% in favor of vaccines and still acknowledge it isn’t as cut and dried as ‘no vaccines = abuse’ or everyone should get every vaccine when even doctors don’t recommend that everyone get every single vaccine.

I guess I can see where you’re coming from. Especially with how hard it is to get a doctor that takes whatever insurance you happen to have from your employer.
