I grow them in a container. Vines were yellowing so I dumped it out and here they are! I grow from sprouted chunk of one potato (not slips, that didn’t work as well), in 50/50 compost & soil and don’t fertilize but do water if it doesn’t rain for a week. Would only ever grow them in a container now, no hunting for them.
They are “Stokes Purple”, a variety designed for the southern US as a replacement crop for tobacco farmers. I like them because the texture is closer to potato, not as gluey as regular sweet potato.
Not many food plants grow here (west coast of central FL) in the summer (in C it stays between 29 and 37 and daily rain) but these do fine and okra likes it, and basil. I did get mini watermelon too but my dogs destroyed them :( dogs love watermelon. Fencing the garden this year and training them to leave it.
Oh and the container was a fabric pot 15 gallon
Oh, cool! So they’re quite similar to the Okinawan purple sweet potatoes which I’ve had before. Nice! Thanks for all the details.
