If any significant number of community members are opposed to this, we can discuss it further.
Judging by the reactions to the recently-posted, now-removed NMS AI content, it seems it’s generally poorly-received and people (including me) would prefer it not to be featured in this community.
Right, but my point was that not all AI content is actually bad, no matter how much so many people would like to see it that way.
So by adopting a rule like this, the community is robbed of any good content because of bad content that is generated the same way? Seems like lazy moderating.
I disagree, and judging by the -10 points on the only AI content ever posted here, it seems others do as well. If you find a compelling example of AI content which wouldn’t be widely detested, maybe we could make an exemption if the community agrees with you.
I have no problem being lazy at an unpaid job, so my advice on that front is to suck it up.
You saw a single low quality post made with Generative AI and all of a sudden want to ban any image that has
even a little bit ofAI used in it?Edit 2: I’m not a fan of how you accuse others of not being a part of the community. A lot of us are lurkers here and upvote comments/posts in this community and only comment/post when something really piques our interest. Are you saying that we’re not a part of this community? This was one of the first communities I ever subscribed to…
I understand making a rule if it becomes a problem with a bunch of low quality posts spamming the place, but this just feels like a knee jerk reaction because of your disdain for anything related to AI (although it’s worth pointing out that the DLSS option in No Man’s Sky is using AI models to improve quality/boost fps).
Alright, here’s an example of some really cool AI generated content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMRi6pNAoag
The way I see it, generative AI is going through some early phases similarly to how cameras were treated in the past. Photographers, for a long time, weren’t regarded as artists for a while simply because it was so easy to just go out and take a picture of anything. But even photography can vary from the random cell phone pictures that anyone can take to the prize winning photographers that capture an amazing moment or who spend a lot of time getting the composition just right for the shot that they want to take. They might even wait in a specific spot for hours just to get a picture when the sun is at the right position.
Likewise with AI generated content, it’s easy to quickly create a lot of junk. But there are artists out there that use AI as another tool in their belt in addition to everything else that they have learned.
I’ll respond to this with what I said to one of the other AI-enthusiast-non-NMS-players commenting here:
Also, the example you linked is completely unrelated to No Man’s Sky. Unsurprisingly. So that doesn’t apply here at all.
I find it interesting that you brought this subject up for discussion but you seem to not actually be interested in discussing it and rather just shitting on AI content. Which is fine, I don’t really have a horse in this race as I’m not subbed here and don’t really care for NMS that much. But just know that you are a lazy disingenuous person from where I’m sitting.
No worries, that couldn’t matter less to me. I brought up this topic to gauge the general response from members of this community - I absolutely am not interested in discussing AI content as a concept with AI enthusiasts or other people who are not members of this community. You’re right about that part.
Bad moderating.
Judging by the multitude of posts on your profile praising AI, I think what you really mean is, “Moderating which doesn’t conform to my biases and is therefore bad.”
Judging by this rule announcement receiving an overwhelmingly positive reaction, I think the majority of this community does not share in your bias. “Bad moderating” would be disregarding the actual will of the community.
And on that note, you seem to have never contributed to this, or any other, No Man’s Sky community so I’m going to write your opinion off as irrelevant.
Its a meme of an ideology to combat ai for its own sake, and that appears to be what this is about given your responses to the original commenter.
It makes sense to combat ai in this community if it creates a lot of bad content. Curious how much ai content you’ve successfully identified, or if you would allow content that was aided by ai but then further developed.
Just doesnt seem super enforceable, and it doesnt really make sense to me. The low effort raw prompt output is one thing, ai all together is another.
Okay, then it’s “a meme” which the vast majority of this community would like to see enforced as a rule. That changes nothing.
If we can’t tell it’s AI, then don’t worry about it! (Everyone can always tell.)
It doesn’t need to make sense to you. You aren’t active in this community. This post was specifically to solicit the opinions of community members, which you are not. Thus your opinion was not solicited and is not desired. (And yes, this is the internet, you can offer it anyway, if you’re into wasting your time.)
If a single post with ten downvotes necessitates such a paradigm shift then by all means.
So is the rule going to say “no ai, unless we cant tell”? Or are you going to leave that up to interpretation?
It’s not a paradigm shift. It’s the developing standard for the non-corporate internet in general. As you are not a member of this community, I will not be replying to you further.
Ai is not inherently corporate, but i get what you mean and why you might opt for non-ai content. You do run the risk of losing me as a friend though, because ai is cool.
