My Chinese girlfriend makes me watch Chinese Xiahongshu (think Instagram reels) videos on her phone with a cracked screen with her. No, I do not understand Chinese.

Check out Dreaming Spanish’s method and content (Comprehensible Input)

Over a year at it and my progress has been amazing. About 1000 hours now. (though I need to do more speaking…)

I can understand everyday speech, TV shows, books more than well enough to enjoy them thoroughly. I still get lost sometimes but that’s expected at this stage.

Honestly its probably helpful then (aside from the cracked screen! Get it repaired)

Immersion makes learning so much easier. Even if you previously learned it and feel like you forgot, it helps bring things back to the surface so much better imo.

Sometimes I try and say small phrases to her in Chinese. We’ve already learned to argue in Chinese, lol

Have you guys seen Firefly? I always wondered what they were saying and whether their pronunciation was any good

My Filipina wife makes me watch English YouTube shorts. But to be fair, I make her so stuff she doesn’t want also.
