          It’s absolutely more than 10k. When was the last time you checked school prices in the US? I graduated in 2019 from a state school, and it was just under $5000 a semester (that’s not including any dorms or books). Giving government paid for schooling is a hard sell in the US because, on the face of it, it feels like a regressive tax. It feels like giving money to people who are more likely to earn better money in the future and therefore shouldn’t get the handout. It’s hard to convince people to think about it one step further and realize those educated people who now make more will now pay more in taxes. Education gives great returns on investment for the government.
