Summary

Republicans are projected to regain control of the U.S. Senate with a 51-49 majority after flipping seats in West Virginia and Ohio.

In West Virginia, Governor Jim Justice, a former Democrat, won the seat vacated by Joe Manchin, while in Ohio, newcomer Bernie Moreno unseated Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown in the most expensive Senate race in U.S. history.

Florida’s Rick Scott, who retained his seat, is expected to become Senate Majority Leader.

Democrats held seats in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, and California, with historic wins for Black female senators in Maryland and Delaware and the first Korean-American senator in New Jersey.

Control of the House remains undecided as several swing district races continue.
