But right now, when our trans and non-binary friends and family are under siege and lives are at risk, I will try to be more thoughtful. I reserve the right to make jokes that land poorly and ill-timed sarcasm, but I’ll try to do it less often on topics that relate to people that have increasing fear for their lives and well being.

But I agree with you. These are times to be clear and direct about being an ally. It’s reasonable and justified to be suspicious when the stakes are high and the world seems dark.
