minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilink7•edit-21 month agoI miss not having to worry about whether any app or game would be easy to install and work flawlessly. edit. also printing in general, situation is so dire that I just send whatever I want to print to my phone and print it from there these days.
minus-square@offspeclink9•1 month agoPrinting was horrible on Windows, and Mac uses cups too, no? I’ve only ever had good experiences printing from Linux
minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilinkEnglish2•1 month agomacOS still uses cups. It’s deprecated but still functional. The alternative is to use AirPrint or get fucked.
minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilinkEnglish1•1 month agoSorry, I misspoke. CUPS itself is not deprecated, only most of its old functionality regarding drivers. From man cups: CUPS printer drivers, backends, and PPD files are deprecated and will no longer be supported in a future feature release of CUPS
minus-square@[email protected]linkfedilinkEnglish7•1 month agoit’s funny you bring up printing because my experience has always been better on linux. even at the office i constantly have to resolve issues with the windows and macs but my linux admin station “just works”.

Doesn’t AirPrint go through CUPS?
