Yeah sorry, I shouldn’t post before I’ve had any coffee. I just know a couple of people that have spent truly insane amounts of money on this “game” and everything I’ve read about Wilson’s megalomania and criminal incompetence makes me furious and sad for the people that supported him in good faith.
Is it their money or yours? I’ve spent 5 grand on it, and won’t put any more into the project since I have already my perfect fleet built.
And yeah it is a game, believe it or not. It’s buggy and lacks here and there but that’s because it’s in active development. Having such open and present development in the gaming industries is unheard of and puts steam greenlight/early access to shame.
What criminal incompetence are you talking about? That he increased the scope from the Kickstarter?
Why so mad and furious and sad that other actually have fun with and are hyped about it?
The results that have been achieved for the money that has been spent is criminally incompetent. What’s it up to now, like $700 million?!? Any competent development studio would have much, much more to show for that budget.
Why so mad and furious and sad that other actually have fun with and are hyped about it?
Like, the way you are talking is exactly what my original post was referencing. Spending $5k on this game is nuts. Are you actually having $5k worth of fun, now? Or are you banking on the finished version to make it worthwhile? Because let me tell you, that game is never getting finished. How far along would you say it is, in regards to being “finished”? 50%? 70%? Even the most generous estimate still means they need hundreds of millions of dollars more to get to 100%. And all of the information coming out of that studio is increasingly dire, their experienced developers are leaving in droves.
I am playing since 2018 and I would say that over those years I got more than 5k worth of fun and experiences out of it, met interesting people and had great discussions.
Even though it was in a rough shape (you were lucky when your gaming session was longer than an hour or had more than 20 people in a session) back then it really got much much more stable (your session can be as long as an entire day, servers that carcked it will be replaced while you simply wait a few minutes with players in the hundreds per session).
This years Citizencon they revealed their plans for the release version, and it looks pretty sweet albeit condensed but they will continue working on it, since it is CRs dream ever since Starlancer/Freelancer.
And yes I bank on it to release, becoming more fatter and richer in content. I also as mentioned stopped adding more funds to it, since 5k is more than enough for me but I am thankful for all the other whales that add way more funds than me as otherwise the project and studio would collapse.
And you throw around that huge amount of money ss it is solely for developing the game, which is factual wrong. It goes to the wages of Devs and staff, the development of the studios and the game development. When they started with the Kickstarter they had a demo akin to freelancer built in a garage. Now they are an international game company.
How far they are on the roadmap to 1.0? I would say 45%, with the biggest hurdle being the networking and the simulated economics being tackled on right now. And fluctuations/turn over happens in that field of work, nothing to worry about.
but I am thankful for all the other whales that add way more funds than me as otherwise the project and studio would collapse
Can you seriously not see how insane this statement is? This is exactly what I’m talking about, absolutely delusional thinking.
And you throw around that huge amount of money ss it is solely for developing the game, which is factual wrong. It goes to the wages of Devs and staff, the development of the studios and the game development.
I have no idea what you’re saying here, paying the wages of devs and staff is literally where the money for a game’s development budget goes. What else would that money be spent on? They’ve spent SEVEN. HUNDRED. MILLION. dollars on this game and you estimate it isn’t even halfway complete?!? Where has that money gone?! What have they been doing with that incredible amount of time and money? Does it feel like a $700 million dollar game to play? Do you seriously think people are going to give them ANOTHER $700 million dollars to finish the game?
And fluctuations/turn over happens in that field of work, nothing to worry about.
There are many, many reports detailing the frustration that senior devs have with the development and the toxic work culture, and how inexperienced the remaining development team is.
There is nothing insane about it. Other studios are backed by publishers, CIG is not. The players and whales are literally the backer of CIG and Star Citizen/Squadron 42.
Is it their money or yours? I’ve spent 5 grand on it, and won’t put any more into the project since I have already my perfect fleet built.
I never understood why people bring up “is this your money or theirs” when SC is being discussed. What does this have to do with anything?
What criminal incompetence are you talking about? That he increased the scope from the Kickstarter?
False advertising - This is an easy one, even many committed star citizens admit that both Chris Roberts and his subordinates constantly lie about everything.
Failure to deliver - Various very expensive JPEGs, some of which are over a decade old, have not been delivered and there is no interest in delivering them.
Crowd funding fraud - The initial crowdfunding campaign was to deliver a Wing Commander style single player game and a space multiplayer game by around 2014-2016. There was nothing about a multi-decade long campaign of paying multiple members of the Roberts family opulent salaries. In particular, Roberts put his unqualified wife in a CMO position (she openly admitted to not understanding how metrics worked or what SEO was) while creating a fake last name for her and warning employees to keep their mouth shut and not let the backers know that they were married. They openly lied about their relationship in company marketing videos.
When this was identified, their PR attempted to frame this as doxing and a harassment campaign.

because its not up to you to decide how they spent their money. Simple as that.

constantly lie about everything? Uh huh… you are probably alluding to changes of gameplay/ships/and whatnot? Perhaps those that complain would read the fricking disclaimers that everything is up to change, especially during alpha development?

Those expensive JPEGs are currenlty not feasible to work on as the gameplay is not there or the tech does not support them for example VIP transport (Spirit E1, Genesis Starliner): what good is VIP transport when the VIPs cant even find the ships due to poor server performance? T0 would be just cargo but with AI Actors, whee such difference much gameplay!
Or the Endeavour, a multi modular science vessel. We are just exploring modularity and are FAR away from science. And Crewe stated several times that it will be one of the last ships to be released.

And after the kickstarter concluded, they asked the community if they should increase the scope and the majority voted for it, what now, go against the wish of the kickstarter backers or just try to fulfill its original goals, missing the mark for CR once again?

I have no answer for this, nor does it bothers me that CR put his wife into a Chief of Marketing Operations position. Marketing nowadays is on point, that what matters to me.
When this was identified, their PR attempted to frame this as doxing and a harassment campaign.
I mean, what does the privates matter to the community?
because its not up to you to decide how they spent their money. Simple as that.
That’s the thing though. What does it matter if someone spent $40 or $40K on SC? How is this relevant to anything?
The other parts I mentioned speak for themselves. Just because you think they are not relevant doesn’t mean they aren’t fair points when evaluating SC, CIG and Chris Roberts.

so you gloss over my answers then? Okay.
