Of all the things to hear about after I just bought a heated vest and gloves…

I was born and raised in northern mn. I remember winters when it hit -40. So cold it seemed the world operated on a slightly different set of parameters. Metal became brittle. Liquid fuels became solid. Trees would explode in the night as the sap finally froze. So trust when I say forget the gimmicks, the dodgy heating schemes.

Layers is the way. Wear dress socks under regular socks under big old wollies. Wear a T-shirt under a long sleeve under a collared under a sweatshirt. You catch my drift. Anything beyond the occasional chemical mitten warmer packet thingys is suspect at best.

I grew up in a place that didn’t get cold. The boiling water freezing in air was wild to me.

        TREES EXPLODE?!

        EDIT: O_O

Damn, that’s scary. We had an ice storm in Ohio some 20 years ago and I remember listening to trees explode all night. We ended up with a pile of brush as big as our two story house! It took years of bonfires to burn it all off.

Vests and gloves may be safer given the lack of stepping on them. (My reasoning is motivated.)

Also I don’t gotta untie them to get them off.
