The article didn’t but for context german elections are happening in a couple months. I think the perpetrator wanted to portray immigrants as bad or that immigrants are attacking german values/culture.
The attacker was an ex-muslim, pro afd and anti-islam, and anti-immigrant activist.
In many ways, he was similar to the person you replied to.

At the time I wrote it it was just known that he was from Saudi Arabia, and I assumed (maybe wrongly) that he was an Islamist.
I stand by my comment because most of these types of terror attacks have been carried out by Islamists over the years 🤷♂️ and because governments and even Muslims themselves acknowledge radical preachers, funded by foreign states or militias, are a big problem.
