If rent is 2k a month, that’s 24k a yr, after taxes, making $25 an hour, you bring home around 35k, that leaves 11k for food, car payments (cuz you can’t afford to live within walking distance of anything), gas, clothing, insurance, appliances, maintenance, and emergencies. The problem isn’t “there’s no engineers” the problem is greedy oligarchs that don’t see a problem with you having 0 social mobility.
My wife is dealing with this as a nurse. They bring in tons of underpaid foreign nurses to “cover the shortages” but refuse to increase wages. There’s no fucking reason an RN with 7 patients should be making $30 fucking dollars an hour.

I work in long term care and the CNAs make ~18/hr. I’m maintenance and make 21. Make that make sense.
I’m still impressed that so many companies still think throwing bodies at a project is how you get it fixed.
