South Korea has voted to impeach its acting president Han Duck-soo, two weeks after parliament voted to impeach its President Yoon Suk Yeol.
A total of 192 lawmakers voted for his impeachment, more than the 151 votes needed for it to succeed.
Yikes, seems like they need to figure out a President who lasts more than a month.
3rd try is the charm?
Looks like the trigger this time was the new guy blocking the appointment of judges to try the last guy.
South Korea is gonna be funny when the entire cabinet is impeached and there’s no one left to becone acting president (cabinet members need the president to be appointed, the legislature cannot appoint them by themselves). Oh, Constitutional Court requires 2/3 for a quorum, total is 9 seats, they have 6 now, if any judge dies, they aren’t ginna have a quorum to do the impeachment trials. So we can have a country with the entire cabinet is suspended, and a consitutional court without a quorum, and the 180 day timer is ticking until the consititutional court is required to finish the trial, which they cannot do without a quorum. What happens on day 181?
🤷♂️
[1] Constitutional court does the ruling anyways without quorum. (unlawful)
[2] Legislature tries to choose a new prime minister without a president to be able to make it official, and have this prime minister become acting president in order to appoint new justices
[3] Original president declares he is no longer suspended since the court didn’t do anything, attempts martial law again
[4] Some general declares themself to be the new president, do a martial law, South Korea become a dictatorship, again.
[5] The all #Benevolent USA under President #47 intervenes and installs Kim Jong Un… wait what?.. KIM JONG UN AS PRESIDENT OF SOUTH KOREA?!? President Kim unites the two countries under his glorious leadership! ALL HAIL GREAT SUPREME LEADER KIM! 🫡
(Lol, I’m being silly, but then again, we have a crazy timeline with assassinations, a convicted felon becoming elected president, ceo being shot, rebels overthrowing a brutal dictator, who knows what will happen next 👀🍿)
Number five is by far the most plausible.
