I hate this argument because it is generally made by people who have never had bigots right in their face.

Rich people didn’t tell them to hate others because they’re queer or black. Their parents did. And their parents before them. The whole family tree rotted and if you want to blame the rich for that, you’ll have to blame the rich that died many generations ago.

Suggesting that the ruling class is the only thing dividing people is naïve to the extreme. It doesn’t matter how much you convince someone that the billionaires are their enemy. Even if they accept that (and many do), they’re not the biggest enemy and never will be. That’s just not how hatred and bigotry work. You might get people to agree that there is a class war and they are losing, but as long as they’re losing less than the n–s, they’re still winning and fuck you if you think they’re going to fight side by side with them.

I’m not sure many people are suggesting that the ruling class is the only thing dividing people, but they certainly aren’t upset to see people fighting left vs right when it comes to topics like Luigi Mangione. Bigotry won’t dissappear alongside the extremely rich, but if we can convince bigots that the minorities aren’t to blame this time, then why is that a bad thing

You can’t. Not most of them. It’s like convincing people that Christianity isn’t true. You’ll get a few people here and there siding with you, but you’re pissing in the wind most of the time. This is way too embedded to think you can just talk them all out of their bigotry.

Again, this is the sort of hopeful comment that generally comes from people who have not had bigots get up in their faces and it’s just not how the world works. I wish it was, but it isn’t.
