this cartoon implies that liberal and progressive citizens are equally responsible for the lack of attention to the owner class, when they’re the only ones criticizing and trying to rein in the 1% while at the same time trying to defend against incessant attacks on pretty much every part of their identity from the bleating moron maga lemmings

Left and Right aren’t a useful representation of a person’s political beliefs. I don’t think this cartoon is saying left and right are the same. I think it’s saying that the billionaire class is using useful idiots to help separate the working class and keep them fighting amongst ourselves.

Absolutely push back against what you see as harmful patterns and always support and defend the rights of others. If you hear someone dehumanizing immigrants or LGBTQA+ or any at risk population of course speak up.

But also challenge the logic of that person. Ask them how they believe what they believe and who benefits. You’re never going to reason someone out of a position they never reasoned themselves into, but you can learn the bullshit talking points they’re being fed to head off those effects for someone else.

The only way we fight Fascism in this country will be to empower each other and engender support for anti fascist action. Build mutual aid in your community and be as involved as possible politically.

It’s a question I’ve wondered for decades: Why do so many socialists speak in code-words — Bolsheviks, bourgeoisie, Engels, Marx, proletaritat, etc — which only push people away? Socialism is a grand concept; why not translate it into English?

Women’s basketball has exploded in the last few years, in large part because the NBA is finally seeing it as a money-maker on par with the men’s pro-League. Same with women’s soccer.

A lot of this has to do with sports, as a broad category of entertainment, still producing the kind of returns that legacy media - movies, tv serials, live music - struggle to replicate. A lot more has to do with women as an “untapped” demographic for the sports media industry. And then the pivot to Streaming means you get extra value from a continuous fresh series of live events with relatively low production costs (just like with reality TV).

I might argue that the trans-panic around women’s sports is a direct consequence of this huge new effort to commodify the franchise. Trans-rights runs up against the specter of performance enhancing drugs in athletics, giving both state officials and league owners an excuse to aggressively regulate and censor their athletes.

South Park is very hit or miss, but I mean that in the best way possible, yet also the worst.

When they hit, it’s a god damn homerun that smashes through the stratosphere and takes out a god damn military satellite

When they miss… well, I start telling my closest loved ones about my e621 search history, because that’s less embarrassing by comparison.

I’ve seen the restrictions they put College Athletes on, people here on visas have less fucking restrictions. Former convicted felons have more rights, even if they’re not living in a “Ban the box” state. It’s like they’re TRYING to break their spirits in addition to maximizing profit. I mean the latter sure, but the former too? Why? It’s no wonder crazy people believe the country is ruled by Reptilian Demiurges farming the planet for negative emotional energy, because I can’t think of much else they could do differently if they were.

The concern-trolling over it was. Abuse continues to be rampant in professional (and amateur) athletics. Reporting tends to either fixate on the Bad Countries Cheating or explode into a “Last year’s players cheated! This won’t happen again!” moral panic after too many high profile athletes start succumbing to symptoms of chronic misuse.

Trans-athletes (and maliciously accused cis-athletes) get swept up in both. You’re either “cheating” by having the wrong set of chromosomes or you’re accused of cheating because you don’t look Trad enough.

I know that they found Lance Armstrong was cheating simply because everyone else in the Tour De France was too and they knew it wasn’t possible for him to have won fairly if they cheated and still lost. So they mass-reported him for dosing, testing him to “prove” he wasn’t, and found he was.

I feel like seemingly evil behavior is usually just conditioned behavior. Ignorance and misunderstanding are more common than active malice. People feel threatened by something that contradicts the world they were raised to think was normal and correct, so they push it away. In somebody’s eyes this makes them hateful and evil, but they’re really just scared. Very few people in this world are in any position to call the shots. Most of just do what we think we’re supposed to.

You’re not alone in that wish. We just can’t let the fact that there’s no plan and no Daddy protecting us make us feel overwhelmed and powerless. Sadly I think this attitude was a tragic factor in the recent US election, when so many people couldn’t get past none of the choices being good enough for them so they abstained in protest. Even if we’re sick of choosing the lesser evil, we still have to or the greater evil wins. Equally true in a lot of personal life choices.

Just because it’s a manipulation doesn’t mean it’s always avoidable, though. Like Lex Luthor manipulates Superman by putting Lois Lane’s life in danger. Letting Lois die isn’t typically a real option. He’s got no choice but to play the game because he’s a moral person.

Are we supposed to just let LGBTQ people die so we can make inroads on the class war? I don’t like it, but that’s not a real option either.

Despite their head cannon being the left always looks to the government to solve problem. At the heart of it all, the right are the ones desperately looking for the government to save them from their failed lives. “Puppet” creates exactly this misunderstanding.

It’s more like, “they are operating off of misinformation to which their behavior is a reasonable response”. They are being misdirected so that they choose to use their agency to do this shitty thing, because their misunderstanding makes it look like a good thing.

It does feel like letting them off the hook, but punishment doesn’t create allies. This way of approaching it creates a very real possibility of them switching sides, and doing so genuinely.

Insert one of the capitalist’s useful idiots in every discussion basically saying “Well I have food, water, and shelter, so I think my X social issue must be addressed before everyone having food, water, and shelter… or you’re a bigot!” derailing every discussion, as the owner class intends, often devolving into arguments of “we can do both/all” when under this economy, we can’t do shit as the owners will keep using their bully pulpits in for profit media and captured government to actively keep us divided and hating one another instead of looking up. If you think you can do anything under that, you’ll be waiting till your grave.

Class war informs all other wars. Those are all battles under the class war. This is class occupation, with the oligarchs literally owning conflicting networks claiming to be news, claiming their truth is the truth when it’s merely yet another method of profiting off stoking poorie fights in the streets so we aren’t a threat to them.
