        Probably they don’t like epic

Neither do I but Epic pays money to the developers for the free games, so by clicking on them the developers are being supported and Epic loses money (if you don’t buy the add-ons then).

          Epic loses money

If you think Epic doesn’t think they are coming out ahead of this, ultimately at the expense of game-buying consumers, you haven’t thought things through as much as they have.

I don’t much care for them either but…it’s free. You should claim it because you don’t like them.

But then you have to touch their store, plus you’re boosting their metrics for user count

You can get the free games over their website, if you don’t want to install the client. You are right about boosting their numbers though.

But can you just download and play it on Linux via Steam/Proton or do you need to install their launcher?

Yeah that’s what I use as well

Heroic also works on Mac and Win.

Sign into your Epic account, set Heroic to automatically add games to Steam, then launch from Steam.

You can use Bottles,Heroic,Lutris but Heroic was Less problematic + the only con its electron but i could just close the launcher while in a game its not a big deal
