    It’s new years in Vegas. Even in the suburbs it’s fireworks everywhere (source: I live here). If the pack caught fire and then they had illegal fireworks in the trunk that would explain it.

    This makes a lot of sense… my immediate question would be how hot were the rear motors? Is it possible some fireworks inside the bed got cooked off by waste heat?

      We know more now, but fyi the motors are below the battery pack, they really can’t affect the cargo area.

        I don’t think that’s correct - the motors are mounted on the front and rear axles - the battery is a flat panel mounted on the bottom of the frame.

        So the rear motor would be directly under the bed. The battery is under the passenger compartment.

        But you’re right, there’s more information. Apparently the driver shot himself after parking, which makes it seem like the incident was intentional.
