To the people worried about losing the content of your channels, there is a chrome extension called Discrub that can get all the content and compress it for you.
Used it to transfer the stuff I posted (pics, memes, links to music videos) to my matrix.
I have heard there are “bridge” programs that transfer what’s posted on discord to your matrix channel but I haven’t found it yet.
I’ve only heard of bridges that are set up to enable, say, IRC and Discord channels to replicate to a Matrix channel, and vice versa. So we can have a conversation with you using Discord and me using Matrix, which appears to you as a Discord channel and appears to me as a Matrix room.

are you talking about large discords with 5k+ people or small discords with like 15 people?
