Hi guys,

First time grower here, I mistakenly left the lid on my kit while in the bag 🤦‍♂️, the shrooms still grew and popped the lid off, but there was some green mold present and 1 huge shroom.

I harvested them just after taking the picture I’ve attached, and I dried them in a dehydrator, you can see the second image.

Questions I hope you can help with:

Is the green mold going to affect the shrooms?

There’s some mold on the cake, I’m attempting a second harvest, but suspect probably a bad idea due to the mold?

The dried shrooms have a blueish tint, I’ve read this is normal, called bruising, just double checking it’s not related to the mold.

The size of the large mushroom, will this be less potent per gram, and impact my dosing?

Any guidance would be appreciated, trying not to use reddit for this 😅

    The blue is totally normal.

    I’d be scared of mold, but if there’s none on your shroom you’re probably clear to eat it. Personally I’d compost that whole tub and start over out of an abundance of caution.

    Don’t flush a moldy cake again, that’s asking for trouble.

    Big shroom should be fine what’s it weigh dry?

      Thanks for the advice, It’s not clear in the image, but there was some mold on the bottom of the large shroom, if you look closely at it in the bottom left you can see what looks like holes, it was slightly green there.

      I’ve thrown the cake, and I’ve ordered another kit, it will be another few weeks before I’m ready to harvest again though what’s the risk with the mold on the shroom?

      The weight of the big shrooms dried is about 6g, it was sliced and I’ve broken it testing it’s dryness, so not sure exactly which bits are the big one anymore.

        I don’t know if you’d get sick or not, or how bad it would be if you did. But in my opinion it’s not worth rolling the bones over a couple weeks of waiting time. I’m not your dad, you can do whatever you want but personally I’d wait for uncontaminated ones.

          Yeah you’re right, the whole reason for making this post was to get some clarity, was kinda hoping for a “they’re grand, no need to worry” response, wishful thinking.

          Anyway trial and error, I know what to do / not do do next time, hopefully I’m more successful second time round 🤞

          I think I harvested this a little early too, I should have waited for them to open up around the bottom a bit, is that right?

            I wish I could have told you that my dude but I’d feel hella bad if you poisoned yourself. The nice thing about shrooms is they don’t take that long to grow, so next time we’ll be here before you know it.

            Usually guys wait for the Caps to open up to harvest. It’s hard saying though with the level of contamination that you have I don’t think that frankly I would have harvested them at all. If you would have waited longer you just would have had moldier shrooms

              I hadn’t dried shrooms before, so it was a good trial run at that too, I think I’ll slice them all thin next time before I start drying them, the sliced ones were cracker dry a lot quicker than the whole ones.
