The show was great. Would’ve been fine if they left it there instead of ending it with the movie which I though undid a lot of the character growth. But still a good watch

Hard agree. The plot of the movie did not need to happen, because Violet’s arc was done. Doing what they did in the movie only works if you ignore her entire character development. It also just doesn’t fit with the theme of

dealing with loss. She came to terms with it at the end of the series. Pulling a “he wasn’t dead after all” in the movie , did not contribute to that theming at all. It actually did the opposite and like you said, undid a lot of the growth.

Hard disagree. The plot of the movie is an unlikely, yet plausible occurrence. Doing what they did in the movie works as a nice sendoff to Violet’s story. Yes, I’m biased because the payoff is some of the happiest I have experienced in fiction.

Just before the climax, Violet dealt with loss and resolved to finally move on from Gilbert. The Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll movie hinted that she wasn’t completely at peace with being unable to see Gilbert, based from her conversations with Amy.
