I don’t think we can, honestly.

Like I want Trump locked up, along with any politician who claimed the election was stolen.

But the fact is, the orange shit won 2024 and in 9 days (uuuugh) will fully pardon himself making any punishment nullified.

If the various governments actually wanted to punish Trump (they don’t, unfortunately) they would have actually done something and took advantage of the FOUR FUCKING YEARS that there was a possibility of their cases making any impact at all.

Our broken justice system is slower than our corrupt political cycle, which lets those in power do whatever they want.

He cannot pardon himself from state charges.

Yeah, but you can see why people who don’t want to see the US federal government potentially collapse into chaos wouldn’t want to try it, right?

The social contract is in pieces on the ground. If those in power no longer provide justice the people will create their own justice.

I think the political establishment is more concerned with maintaining stability than pursuing justice. They’re desperately trying to hold together a system that, as you point out, is falling apart. It may very well be a futile effort, but I understand why they’re doing it. Especially since our system was never really set up to prioritize justice in the first place.

I get that a lot of people are ready for the whole thing to just burn to the ground, and that might have always been inevitable, but if/when it does happen, it’s going to suck. A collapse of the United States wouldn’t be pleasant.

I can’t get into that mindset anymore. Let it burn.

I would. Even if it was “sentence is delayed 4years and 12 days.” Try to be fair and serve justice and let the bad guys be the ones to work on how to disrupt the rule of law further.

          I would.

I know, but clearly not everyone would, and those are the people making the decision.

It would not collapse. If prison made being president impossible then we would just use his Vice President. Being the replacement is 90 percent of their job.

          It would not collapse.

I don’t know how you can be so certain, but you could be right. It doesn’t make any difference, though, because that’s not what’s happening. Trump isn’t going to prison. If there’s something you think you can do to change that, go for it.

Oh I know what’s actually happening. I also know all of the justifications they’re using to defend this example of sheer corruption are themselves utterly morally bankrupt. You cannot have a democracy without accountability.

I don’t know why you think they give a rats ass about morality or democracy. I suppose because they say they value those things? I guess you’ve never heard of this thing people do called lying.

Yeah but if you don’t call it out then people will think this is normal.
