Depends on the target. Stores? Probably fine. Sticking to chains instead of local shops would be cooler, though. People’s homes? Nah. That’s shitty. Taking advantage of people in an emergency is some CEO level mentality.

If you’re looting TVs, you’re making the evacuation worse, but I don’t care if you’re just grabbing food or supplies. I’d absolutely break some windows if I needed jumper cables for instance.

Altadena–where the images of the “looting” are coming from–is not Pacific Palisades. Living in LA county doesn’t mean you’re rich, and most people in Altadena weren’t.

It’s a racially diverse neighborhood that historically wasn’t redlined, representing one of the few areas in LA where black families were able to build equity instead of perpetually renting. It’s not an accident that these ghouls are showing black people fleeing from their homes with what they can carry and calling it looting, and it’s going to get people fucking killed.

Yes, american media’s major purpose is to be a racist bias confirmation machine. Doesn’t change the fact that looting is cool and good.

If you see someone you think is looting, no you didn’t.

Easy to fall into a “this person looks richer than me” justification with that one. Anything below a super-mansion should just be considered off limits for anyone with a conscience.
