I was asking my wife rhetorically really because of the theme music on many of the modern ones I have been watching. Now she brought up a good point which is that maybe its part of the localization. Do primarily to my eyes getting worse I now watched them dubbed (although dubbs are much better now than in the 90’s). Now previously I don’t think they really changed the music but now im not 100% sure. Anyone actually watch the japanese broadcasts and know if they localize to that degree? If not does anyone know if hip hop became popular in japan or korea or such?

I don’t listen to pop music much but hip hop has been popular in Korea for a long time now. Same with neighboring East Asian and Southeast Asian countries. I guess they’re just not nearly as popular overseas but they’re mainstream enough locally you’ll hear it wherever you go.

edit: Other than music, hip hop dance and fashion was pretty popular too at least when I was in high school.

Talking about Korea specifically, the hip-hop scene has been growing in popularity for a while now. I first became aware of Korean hip-hop in the late 2000’s with Epik High. In modern Kpop, one or more members specializing in rap is pretty standard with many songs featuring a rap segment.

I assume you are talking about Tower of God, a series that is adapting a Korean manhwa. Fittingly, several of the OPs and EDs are performed by a Kpop group called Stray Kids. The group has 3 rap-focused members that even perform as a trio under the name 3RACHA.
