Summary

Iranian pop star Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, known as Tataloo, has been sentenced to death for blasphemy after the supreme court overturned a prior five-year prison sentence.

Tataloo, who had been living in Istanbul since 2018, was extradited to Iran in 2023 and has since been detained.

He also faces charges of promoting “prostitution” and spreading “propaganda” against the Islamic Republic.

The verdict is not final and can still be appealed.

Once a figure courted by conservatives, Tataloo gained fame for his controversial music and tattoos.

There are a number of places in the world that have legal systems that are totally controlled by the state. If you go to those places you are taking large chances as you don’t know how much you figure in that government’s agenda at that moment.

Every single functional nation is in control of the legal system. If they are not the state is failing or has failed.

All legal systems are controlled by the state. Uncontrolled systems are called vigilantism.

Not all countries have the courts as a branch of the government.

Sweden is an example of such a country where the judicial system is independent from the government.

I think the guy you answered was a bit clumsy in their wording of it as a “third branch”, I think they mean “third” as you would a “third party”.
