I mean who knows what’s going to happen in the future. It’s fairly predictable, but who knows when something is gonna come along and throw a wrench in the plans.

All it takes is another civi war. Or a world war. Or a global economic collapse. Then who knows what’s going to happen in American politics let alone global politics.

What if Trump actually does make everything affordable and our economy is booming again? Democrats would never recover from that. I don’t think that’s what he’s going to do but we don’t know until it happens.

He could drive this country into the ground and leave it wide open for Democrats to sweep in 2028 so they can fix the hole he dug. Again we just won’t know until it happens.

I’m choosing to remain optimistic that Trump won’t completely fuck everything into oblivion and that the Democrats can actually come back in 2028 with a real candidate that people can rally behind again like they did with Obama. I hope they can somehow stop pulling the ship in different directions and all get on board like the Republicans do.

    Only time will tell.

Same, if only because doomerism helps nothing.

Though tbh, I think you’re on to something. Right now, the shock and awe / flurry of EOs appears to be working, but eventually the opponent adapts. So much of an autocrat’s power rests in compliance, and I’d like to believe that many won’t. The inspectors generals’ appear to be remaining at their posts for now.

Agreed. Best laid plans and all that. Did anyone in 2016 really think that we’d have a global pandemic in 2020? Did anyone in 2004 really think that there would be a global recession in 2008 and that America would elect a black president? Did anyone think that crime in the US would have a miraculous downturn at the end of the 1990s? Or that the bombings during the civil unrest of the 1960s and 1970s would end (from that article, In a single eighteen-month period during 1971 and 1972 the FBI counted an amazing 2,500 bombings on American soil, almost five a day.) ?

Anyway, the point is, things could get way worse, but they could also get much better. It’s hard to know what will happen. Maybe Socialist (Or Soc-Dem) Jesus will come down from the heavens and save us all. Probably not, but maybe!
