This is bit of a weird one, please bear with.
I have two Lemmy accounts, the other is over on Beehaw, and when I signed up there I got my acceptance email np. My husband also tried to sign up there, but never got an email and ended up joining another instance.
Now it turns out there was some kind of configuration issue and emails weren’t being sent out from Beehaw to Gmail users (being discussed as part of this thread). This makes sense, he signed up with a Gmail address and I didn’t.
The reason I’m mentioning this here is that I signed up to lemmy.world with a Gmail address, and I didn’t get an acceptance email. Just speculatively tried logging in after a few hours and it worked.
So it could just be me. Or it could be that whatever issue was plaguing Beehaw is also an issue here in which case they’ll know how to fix it.
Any other Gmail users care to weigh in?
Ok. (This should generate a notification…)
Success! Woohoo, glad we caught that before the influx next week 😬
What’s next week?
Half of Reddit going dark on Monday seems like it’s probably going to have a fair few people looking for alternatives.
Ah is that when they make their API paid? Haven’t been following that news really, I must confess I’m not a Reddit user, just happened to have setup this server at the same time that API news got out…
Ah right sorry, that’ll teach me to assume.
I’m not sure when the change is supposed to come in but I do know a lot of the big subs are basically shutting down for 2 days in protest, starting Monday. So naturally there’s been a lot of talk of Lemmy coming up, I think we should probably brace ourselves for a “Mastodon last November” type situation.
