      Well, you are mistaken in your definition of capitalism, but I admit that capitalist like to muddle the water like that so you are far from the only one that got bamboozled like that. There are many other economic systems including those that can be categorized as “socialism” that have free market based exchange and private ownership of the means of production.

      The primary feature of capitalism is the goal to accumulate private capital beyond what a single person can utilize and thus use this accumulated capital (=means of production) to extract surplus value from others.
