If we are sticking to text and “small” images only with maybe relying on embeds for larger files like images or video maybe but the reality is hosting a social media site gets expensive. Hell there is a very good reason we will likely not see many competitors to Twitch or Youtube since they are an inherently unprofitable businesses, bandwidth is expensive, heck even storage is expensive. The free internet may be slowly disappearing for better or worse.
