Summary

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) repeatedly shouted an anti-trans slur despite objections from Democratic Rep. Gerald Connolly.

She defended her remarks by attacking transgender rights and dismissing criticism.

The outburst drew condemnation from LGBTQ+ advocates and political figures, highlighting her shift from previously supporting LGBTQ+ rights to embracing anti-trans rhetoric.

Mace has used the slur in past statements and introduced legislation restricting transgender rights.

Honestly, I didn’t know that was a derogatory word, because I hear it used by people within the lgbqt community. Maybe it’s like the n-word where only certain people can get away with saying it?

EG, there was a famous SF club with that word in its name https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trannyshack

It’s very much a “reclaimed word” in the same way the n-word is. Totally cool if one of my queer friends says it, not cool if some rando on the street shouts it at me.

And most people would just go “hey man, that word is deragatory” and you’d probably go “oh sorry,” and everyone moves on and grows.

But Mace was told directly “hey that’s a derogatory term” and then proceeded to spew it repeatedly, because she’s a cunt.
