    Its not about lack of nuance but more about deliberately being a useful idiot because not everyone has the patience of someone like cowbee. Let me translate your example:

    • Slavery is bad.
    • Slavers say Dessalines is bad.
    • Therefore Dessalines is good.

    Now its 2025. Dessalines is long dead and we can safely say the free people of Haiti deserved a better leader. But back in the 1800s I’d back Dessalines to the hilt because I’m carrying absolutely zero water for slavers.
