One thing that the EU did that I wish we had in the US was to choose a clearly distinct set of names for legislators at the member state and central level. The EU has MEPs at the central level and MPs at the state level. We have a variety of terms, but it’s frequent to do things like confuse state senators and federal senators.
I guess that stems from your state capitols being copy -pasted versions of the federal capitol (afaik). Actually I wonder how the naming works in Canada
