Summary
Sen. Bernie Sanders is touring Iowa and Nebraska to rally against “the oligarchy,” aiming to energize progressives rather than launch a 2028 presidential bid.
At 83, he seeks to shape the Democratic Party’s future, arguing it lost in 2024 by neglecting working-class voters.
He hopes to influence budget battles and the 2026 midterms, targeting GOP lawmakers in battleground districts.
With Democrats lacking clear leadership, Sanders’ prominence and focus on economic inequality could define the party’s direction in the Trump-Musk era.
I love how Americans, even in left-wing spaces like Lemmy, would rather threaten global destruction than show some goddamn humility for once.
Tone won’t make it a self-demolition
How do you read that as a threat?
I’m an American that voted against Trump. I can show humility by saying this country not only fucked up, but is well on the path to crumbling into a big shitty hateful mess.
But the stuff about emissions and nuclear weapons is spot on. Our Republican controlled government is absolutely going to increase our emissions, and climate change is a global problem.
The nuclear weapons exist obviously, and if one of them gets launched towards any place for any reason, it is likely to mean the end of most of civilization.
For what it’s worth, I think the environmental consequences are guaranteed to happen (or at least, we are guaranteed to get worse and shift the burden to others), and the nuclear stuff is pretty unlikely.
Though unfortunately I could definitely see a goal of Trump’s compromisers being to start a war with the rest of NATO.
How do you know OP is american?
