I like Matt Damon as an actor, generally. But, I just don’t see him as Odysseus. His voice, demeanor and look just don’t fit. I feel like this is more to throw a famous actor in the title role to draw crowds.

The character is bigger than any actor. It’d be great to see an unknown/lesser known actor in the role.

Not just him, the entire cast are big names. It will be weird seeing characters like that all played by A-listers. There comes a point where you’re too famous to not be seen as the character but yourself playing a character. For me the worst is Leo DiCaprio. I just keep seeing the actor regardless of the character he plays. Even Brad Pitt can sometimes disappear into his role somewhat.

It being a Nolan movie, I kinda wanna see Cillian Murphy in the role. Does he seem like a perfect fit? No, but he’s got at least some range, having played both badass characters (Peaky Blinders) and scaredy cats (Inception). Plus Nolan clearly loves working with him.

I get where you’re coming from, but let’s face it, a movie about the Odyssey is going to be fairly niche no matter who the lead actor is. And one way to make it less niche (and hopefully, more likely for similar movies to be made eventually) is to have a name that most people already recognize.

Is it ideal? No. Am I particularly happy about it? Meh. But given the choices avaliable, I’m happy enough to throw my support behind Kamala Harris Matt Damon
