    An electric car is more than just a battery, of course. Sophisticated electronics are needed to manage the flow of electrons into and out of the battery as well.

    No, there really isn’t a need for “sophisticated” electronics. The electronics of a battery charger is quite basic. Apply voltage and limit the charge current.

    EVs are extremely simple in operation. It would be nice if manufacturers exploited that fact to bring prices down.

      Your whole response here is extremely snarky and wildly untrue. If wiring up an EV is “quite basic” I’d really love to see the results of your DIY EV.

      I’m sure everything from charge control, to battery wear distribution, to temperature regulation, to range estimation, to powering the various car subsystems, to braking regeneration, to safety systems comes naturally to you, but please, for the rest of us simpletons, do us a favor and publish an “EV Engineering For Dummies” book! I’ll buy a copy!
