I’m in the middle of a whole house remodel. First half of the house (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, hallway) is almost done and we hate the wall texture. It sounds so stupid, but the old and new look dramatically different. Part of the house was crows foot so i went with it thinking it would be cheaper and easier. How hard/expensive is it going to be to change it?

Cost will depend on how you go about the change. The cheapest change would be to scrape it all and the paint the smooth wall. Add some cost to scraping and then applying a different texture. Alternatively, you could just drywall over the existing g texture to start fresh. But, that’s both cost and labor intensive. Scraping only costs some sweat equity.

Thanks. When you say scrape - is that sanding it? Most of it has been painted. Contractor mentioned skim coating it and putting new texture or adding thin drywall. What would you do?

Scraping means to scrape it off so as to expose the drywall underneath. But, it will be much much harder if it’s already painted. Your contractor has the right idea. Skim coat it or put new drywall over it. Probably cheaper, too, if you’re paying for the labor.

Thank you. We went back and looked at it, trying to focus on the good areas. Marked the areas that really need attention and explained exactly what we do and don’t like and that mostly we want it to match. I need to chill out about the small stuff, but it’s hard when it’s all so expensive.
