My boss (who is horrible) gave out little encouragement cards to everyone. I’m one of two especially vocal people in my department. We both got cards that say “You never cease to amaze me.” 🤣🤣🤣 I keep it on my desk as a badge of honor.

Ask Lemmy•Following the recent tipping question, what's a good wage for a server? What are they paid outside the US?
12·1 day agoI’m just saying that servers don’t want to change the system because they make so much more with tips. If they make less than minimum wage then the restaurant is required to make up the difference.
I’m in Texas and here’s it’s - Bless your heart.
How can i save this so i remember to check back in a month?

Ask Lemmy•Following the recent tipping question, what's a good wage for a server? What are they paid outside the US?
11·1 day agoIt’s just a very weird schedule and servers that I’ve known sometimes end up working 11-2 and then 6-11, or something like that, if they want the hours. They send you home when business slows down so a planned 6 hour dinner shift can switch to much less if it’s a slow night.

Ask Lemmy•Following the recent tipping question, what's a good wage for a server? What are they paid outside the US?
12·2 days agoIf minimum wage is $8/hr and a server earns $2 plus $40 in tips, why would servers want to change that system?

Ask Lemmy•Following the recent tipping question, what's a good wage for a server? What are they paid outside the US?
32·2 days agoIf they were paid minimum wage in the US, they would get $8-20, depending on location. With the current system they’re paid $2/hr but take home $20-50/hr per responses here. Also taxing is different on wage vs tips.

41·2 days agoI think part if the issue is that it’s not a normal 8 hour shift, especially in nicer restaurants that may be open 11-2 and 5-10 plus prep/cleanup.
Without service, 0-$2. For service, 18-20% of pretax. I agree that a $50 meal is not harder to serve than a $12 meal, but it is what it is. Couple of dollars per drink at the bar. I freaked out when my husband tried to tip $100 on a 4 drink $500 bar tab.

Ask Lemmy•What YouTubers have you watched for a long time and still find worth returning to?
4·2 days agoI’ve watched Maru and Walter Santi (cats) for a long time.
My husband likes Bourbon Moth Woodworking. I can’t stand the stupid fake speech pattern he adopted when he got popular.

14·3 days agoKnees are hard. It seems like surgery should be the answer but it doesn’t always help much, so then you’re stuck with meds/shots which are also only moderately effective. I had three scopes, several years of meds (biking, PT, and celebrex were more effective than the shots), and finally had partial replacements on both last year.
