If you go back as far as before anybody ever wrote a promissory or minted a coin, then yeah. Capitalism’s etymology is the use of Capital to exchange for goods to describe different socioeconomic systems in the 17th century, specifically to differentiate from other theories gaining popularity at the time. Technically the word capital was derived from a latin word for cattle, so the precise birth of capitalism would have been the acceptance of livestock as a universal currency.

That’s the earliest root of capitalism, yes. It’s not its earliest widespread implementation. The Roman empire (for example) was not capitalist. Buying and selling goods with currency predates capitalism. The social aspect of those socioeconomic systems is still a defining quality.

So you adopt the same definitions that Tankies use to identify political tribes of the west versus the east?

I don’t like that, I prefer to just use the meanings of the words. Pinkie Pie would be ashamed of those under their banner who claim China or the USSR are anti-war.

No, I haven’t made any of those claims, nor have I referenced geopolitics.

Etymology does not define the meanings of words. Lexicons do. I’m not acting under the banner of Pinkie Pie, any of the other ponies, or any other cartoon character. I also haven’t claimed China is anti-war, nor have I claimed the USSR was anti-war.

I’m pointing out that capitalism did not originate markets or their foundational concepts. The fact that it’s a Renaissance era system that displaced manorialism should at least be a clue.
