I know someone that hasn’t paid their taxes in years and they’ve yet to face consequences. I genuinely do wonder if the IRS has the capability to enforce tax collection atm.
They “caught” me because I forgot to file the paperwork showing my employer arranged me paying my taxes on vesting stock shares. Couldn’t have been more than four figures. I’m glad they’re on the case of small-fry tax “cheats.”
I stopped like 80% worth and I still file my returns. I’m on a stupid cheap payment plan and year over year it just keeps adding up and they just keep saying to make the agreed upon payment.
My friend’s been doing it like 12 years now and owes into the six figures, no ramifications, his goal is to die with a huge balance. I’m only like 2 years in. It was originally like 25% unpaid but after this years shenanigans I upped it significantly.
I cannot advise this at all by the way, it could go very badly, but if I can at least make it another 2-3 years before I permanently leave the US, that’d be good.

Yeah, it’s not really worth it for low income. And tax preparers don’t even accept receipts from certain organizations anymore because this organizations hand out blank receipts and tell the donors to fill them out, which led to rampant and blatant abuse.
Seeing as how donactions are only a deduction from your taxable income, 10k won’t get you to not paying taxes unless you make like 20 or 30k or something. And I gotta think thier system will flag that, probably just assuming it was a typo.

I mean I’m fairly certain what he’s doing is legal. It is illegal to not file you taxes, it isnt a jailable offense to not pay them.

Oh, guess that doesn’t work for standard deduction/low income. At any rate, I’d probably just donate to known, reputable charities, and/or not deduct.
