Mod: JonsJava Sanction: multi community ban and post removals

A few days ago I created an alternate account to try out PieFed and see how I like it. My first and only post under this account was removed:

However, I checked the modlog in Voyager and didn’t see anything there. I thought that maybe it was because I had a new account or something and I got automoderated so I switched to this account since it’s older to post.

While I was recreating the post it occurred to me that using “morons” was wrong and probably violated the rules to I updated the post title as well, however it got removed also and this time I could see the modlog entry:

I got the idea to try and pull the modlog from the web version of Lemmy instance (I couldn’t find where to check it in PieFed) for my PieFed account and that’s where I also saw the same justification: “rage baiting troll”.

I also saw that I got banned from the News community for the same reason based of a post in the UnpopularOpinion community.

I reached out to JonsJava directly from the PieFed account to explain what happened and request the bans be lifted hoping to work it out directly. Instead I got another ban on my PieFed account for “ban evasion” though I’m unclear how or where I evaded a ban.

I think it’s unfair because it was a misunderstanding/system issue on my part and, as I explained to the mod, this is my legitimate opinion as an American that seems unpopular when I’ve brought it up in real life.

I didn’t ask for the posts to be put back, I didn’t even ask for my ban from UnpopularOpinions be lifted on my Lemmy account since this situation has led me to decide I don’t want to participate there anyways.

I did ask for my ban to News be lifted since I participate in that community frequently. Instead I got a ban on my PieFed account for an evasion that never happened.

Honestly, at this point I really just want a sanity check over any resolution because this really feels like power tripping to me. I don’t really care if the bans get lifted now; it’s time to be done with the fediverse for me. I came here during the API issue in Reddit and it seems to me like it’s slowly getting worse, probably the fate of all social media as the user base grows.

BPR. Assuming the offending post was really posted to [email protected] (it’s not completely clear from your write-up).

In this case I’m not sure it has much to do with power-tripping. It’s more a pertinent confirmation of your unpopular opinion!

What I’ve learned from my run-ins with mods (and indeed non-mods) is that most people here have a lower tolerance for contradiction than I would have guessed. It must be generational too. We know from the sociology that Gen Z simply has a different attitude to speech - and speech policing. I’ve had to take this into account in my contributions. Alas.

It’s because people expect life to be an online algorithm like Insta, Snap, TikTok, that they can curate and change easily, and so when life isn’t pleasant or what they want in that moment, they lose control and freak out. Anyone getting mad about “trauma dumping,” when people are simply sharing their lives is a prime example of this. It IS trauma dumping to graphically discuss and relive your childhood abuse randomly one day, it is not trauma dumping to simply say, “Abuse from my childhood is bothering me today.”

What you mean is that substantial number of mods are censoring fucks, incapable of accepting someone else’s point of view. I second that, especially on .world
