“I am doing less stand-up than I was [before hosting ‘After Midnight‘]. I was on tour three weekends a month for years, so to take this job and to know that I was gonna have to scale back a little bit was a very difficult decision for me. I wasn’t sure if it was something I wanted to do or not, because stand-up is the most important things to me. It’s the most rewarding thing,” Tomlinson said last month during a panel with Variety’s Selome Hailu at SXSW in February. “I was very clear about that in the interview process. I was like, ‘Just so you know, this will never be my first love. This show will never be my thing thing — stand-up is the most important thing to me, and as long as I can do both, I would love to do both.”
In a statement, Tomlinson thanked Stephen Colbert, who helped produce the show, along with the staff and crew. Colbert also offered appreciation. “I want to thank CBS for their constant support and invaluable partnership on ‘After Midnight,’ and the whole staff for their amazing dedication,” he said in a statement. “While we were excited and grateful for our third season to start in the fall, we respect Taylor’s decision to return to stand-up full time.”
She quit to do standup (after her contract expired). But from the beginning she made it clear she loves standup and might not like hosting, it was always a trial thing.
None of this is that deep. Doing a consistent late night show means you can’t really do other stuff. It eats up all your time so you need a big paycheck. And most comedians aren’t huge fans of routine and structure.
Back before streaming there was prestige and money in it, there just isn’t anymore.

Where is the line between non renewal and cancelled? When a show isn’t renewed we call that cancelled.
Take a look at this recent article that outlines renewals and cancellations. Even shows that aired their final season are listed as cancelled.
Cancelled is the industry term.
