I’m thinking about getting back into #IRC especially as my local LUG uses it. Its been decades (mIRC / Pidgin when it was Gaim days) since I last was active on the protocol. On desktop, there’s obviously lots of options for clients, but what do people use on #Android these days?
Also any important things that might have changed since then?

It’s nice to use ZNC (a “bouncer”) on a machine that’s always connected, and then connect into that from any clients you’re using. That way you stay logged in.

Another option, in case you’re already hosting a Matrix server, is Heisenbridge, which is an IRC bouncer acting as a Matrix appservice, so you see IRC channels as rooms in your Matrix client. I’ve been using it for a few years now, it’s pretty decent.
