Whenever these articles are brought up, it seems like there is a fairly large cohort of people celebrating this. To which, I’m not entirely sure why. They often espouse that it’ll help curb disinformation. However, I don’t see this stopping memes or propaganda from coming to Facebook.
What it will do is eliminate the few pieces of legitimate news from the website. I don’t think this is quite the victory that (some) people think it is.

But they wouldn’t be able to confuse it with genuine news - as they’d know that actual legit news doesn’t exist on that website anymore.
Something else will fill the gap. People got news long before there was FB or Google, heck even before internet and computers.
The people getting the majority of their news from Facebook likely considered the memes to be more legitimate than the actual news anyway.
