But I’m slowly getting over it.

Speed bumps shouldn’t be so disruptive that you can’t go over them at the posted speed without smacking your head on the roof. Example if the limit is 25mph, you shouldn’t need to slow to 5mph to go over it. It enrages me.

On a local road near me, the (financially well off) residents along the street complained to the city about speeding, so they did targeted enforcement and while there’s always some speeders, the average driver on that road did indeed slow down to the posted limit.

Not good enough. The people there kept complaining that 25 in a 25 was dangerous and kept bitching to the city until they installed like 20 speed bumps in less than 1 mile of roadway. You can’t even get back to the posted speed limit now between bumps unless you’re constantly flooring it and slamming the brakes, so now the whole area is clogged with traffic going 8-12mph.

…now the residents are complaining about all the exhaust from the traffic and how they can’t find openings in traffic to cross the street except at the one traffic light and one stop sign along that stretch.

Basically they want to turn the road…a main throughway between three big neighborhoods…into their own private drive, and they’ll bitch constantly about not having that.

There is a TikTok account that posts videos of nice cars like Corvettes and stuff going over speed bumps in front of their house. The sign is covered by a tree, and the speed bump isn’t painted yellow, so people just don’t see it.

Instead of cutting down one of the branches to make the sign clear, or telling the city to paint it yellow, they get entertainment out of others severely damaging their cars.

So fuck them. They deserve the fumes.

Edit: also, speed bumps are just crappy in general, because the people that would do the most damage and run people over, are the people in lifted trucks with upgraded suspension parts. The same people that can drive over speed bumps without slowing down.

Or better yet, when it is two separate speed bumps with the middle cut out, and trucks with the wide tires and spacers can just drive with their tires completely on the sides missing the speed bump all together.

Speed bumps are just there to inconvenience the people who would be less likely to speed or have a child actually become run over by the vehicle.

The fastest car over a speed bump isn’t a lifted truck with off road suspension, it’s my rental car.

That’s the lifecycle of a road.

First there’s nothing; then the government cuts that nothing with a road; then people open business to serve the road; then the business attract more people and a city is born along the road; then the city grows and the road is a huge, lethal obstacle right on the middle of everybody’s path; then the government finds a new piece of nothing and moves the road there; then all the business along the older road die, and the city needs to travel into and out of the center every day.

Honestly, I’m not sure anybody can do anything about it.

And shouldn’t be so tall that you need a winch to get over them without trashing the bottom of your car like the new ones near to where I live.
