I was looking at Lemmy instances and noticed that, at the time of this post, Beehaw has blocked 387 other instances … including lemmy.world. This is more than any other instance with no other instance with more than 5 users comes even close to blocking so many. Does anybody know the rationale behind the decision to block so many instances?

Beehaw Instances for those wanting to see who they are blocking.

Beehaw is very… strongly ideological. Which is fair enough - it’s a community built around strongly leftwing / progressive views, and they want to keep it that way.

Especially given the rudimentary moderation tools on this fledgeling platform, they just don’t have a means to stem the tide of unwashed-masses stinking up the joint.

I too am a strongly leftwing-progressive person, but I don’t like being in sooper-seekrit clubs for it; I’m more of a slug it out and yell at people kind of person - which is why I’m here rather than there.

I’m the exact same way. It’s why I created a new account after they made that announcement

I’m the same. I enjoy the chance to have my viewpoints challenged. I don’t often drastically change my mind but I almost always strengthen my understanding of different topics when I have to defend them. I do understand the desire to remove bad faith actors though. It’s a tough line to walk
