U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were seen making arrests along two of Charlotte's main immigrant corridors on Saturday, prompting businesses to close and restaurants to lock their doors. The arrests preceded a protest in uptown, were tensions ran high over the deployment of federal immigration agents to Charlotte.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents fanned out across Charlotte on Saturday, making arrests along Charlotte’s immigrant-heavy Central Avenue and South Boulevard corridors. The arrests preceded a protest Saturday afternoon in uptown, where hundreds condemned the crackdown and the deployment of federal immigration agents.

On Sunday morning, CBP Commander Greg Bovino said in a social media post that agents had arrested 81 people so far, “many” of whom have criminal histories. He said the agency will release more information about people who were arrested on social media.

      If there were hundreds of people marching to dismantle the ICE office I would join them. I’m not going out there by myself.

      Too many distractions from reality sadly as well as the “If it doesn’t affect me then why should I care” mindsets. I’ve got friends who would also fit into the demographics to be harassed but fall into these mindsets. I will continue to protests as they happen locally as many more people should. It seems to have pushed the local DA to be on our side publicly against ICE abuses if they do deploy here
